Knysna Pre-Primary School

Fun, loving, safe & stimulating

Each child is encouraged to participate and reach their full potential. This is achieved with the support and guidance of qualified and experienced teachers.

At Knysna Primary Pre-Primary we aim to equip each individual child with the necessary life skills to express themselves and appreciate each child’s uniqueness and develop their individual talents. We endeavour to treat each child with love and respect and to make each parent feel part of our school.

Knysna Primary Pre-Primary, formally known as Little Elephants, was established in 2002 on the Knysna Primary school premises. On the 1st June 2006, we relocated to “Huis Uitstaan” in Church Street.

This old historic building was used as a school, boys hostel and then a safe haven for the underprivileged. This historical building was very run down and the Knysna Primary School Governing Body restored the building for ‘Little Elephants’.

We are very privileged and proud to use this building and grounds for our school.

We have a sports field, library/media centre, hall and spacious classrooms. Our classrooms are filled with puzzles, books and a variety of games that help us learn letters, sounds, colours, shapes and numbers. We do activities that make the muscles in our hands stronger. All skills we need when we go to Gr1.

We have a fantasy and creative area in the classroom that plays a huge role in developing life skills. We have three playgrounds and a big shaded grass play area. There is also a sandpit and the children’s measuring capacity is learned through a water-play trough.

We take the children on many fun and educational outings: Elephant Park, Birds of Eden, Reptile Park, Police Station, Fire Station, Veterinary Clinic, Bakery and many more. While the learners are able to express themselves freely through their creativity and play, they are developing important areas such as gross and fine-motor skills, eye-hand coordination, problem-solving and social skills.

These activities happen during school time.

SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES:
These take place weekly in the school hall and cover Christian values and enrichment programs.

Learn2Swim: This program takes place at Knysna Primary School’s indoor, heated pool. The coaches are all qualified Learn2Swim instructors. Children are transported by school bus to the primary school and back by their class teacher with a PDP license. The program takes place in school hours and at no extra cost to the parents. More here.

Gross Motor Sport Program: Sport skills are taught to all our learners once a week.  We encourage active bodies that will create active minds at school.

Kleuterklassiek is presented during school hours, once a week. It is free of charge for all our enrolled Grade R’s. More here.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH:
At Knysna Primary Pre-Primary we believe, that an important part of a child’s education is that they learn to become involved in the upliftment of their community. Every year we support a different organization, to create awareness among our learners of the needs of others. In 2023 we collected tinned foods for the Dorothy Broster Child and Youth care Centre. We visit old age homes and entertain our seniors with a short concert and spoil them with a treat and gifts. We do an annual support project for our local KAWS (Knysna Animal Welfare).
