Carpe Diem

Striving to develop the unique potential of every learner with special needs.

At Carpe Diem we strive to develop the unique potential of every learner with special needs, through the use of suitable educational and therapeutic programs. Carpe Diem School caters for physical-, learning- and intellectually impaired learners between the ages of 6 and 18 years that cannot be accommodated in the mainstream education.

Carpe Diem School has a satellite unit for autistic learners and we are based on Knysna Primary School’s grounds. Currently, we have 4 learners in the class between the ages of 8 – 10 years. Each learner works at his own level of development. Weekly planning is done by following CAPS and DCAPS curricula.

We work according to themes and the work is learned practically and in a playful way. We also focus a lot on teaching the learners skills, e.g. communication skills (Makaton), physical development, table setting, table manners, washing dishes and reading a recipe. Every learner is unique and therefore we strive to handle and love the learners in their unique way.
