CULTURE

“Every STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) needs a FLOWER!”

By this we mean that Arts and Culture are very high on our priority list. The relationship between academia and the arts offers our children the unique opportunity to develop in a balanced way.

Whether it is choral performances, concerts, revues, visual art exhibitions, or musical performances of high quality, this diverse talent remains the showcase of our school.

Refer to the Current Extra-mural Activities Program handed out or contact the office: 044 382 1422.

Please note that any changes that may occur in the program will be put on the D6 Connect.

Music Team

We at Knysna Primary School's Music Academy value music as a powerful tool that can contribute significantly to our young minds' holistic development, upliftment, and empowerment. It is our mission to bring together communities of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs, through music and to promote transformation and integration in a fun and exciting way.

Music tuition is offered in piano, voice, some woodwinds (flute and recorder), strings (violin, cello, and double bass), and guitar. Our choirs (junior and senior) participate in various joyful events in and around Knysna, as well as marimba ensembles that we facilitate. Furthermore, learners are also prepared for both internal and external exams, as well as Music Eisteddfodau.

Art

Art Classes are incorporated into our daily timetable. The art room is a space that encourages self-expression, creativity, risk-taking and visual learning.

Learners experience different mediums such as inks, painting, pastels, cutting and building. KPS will be integrating the arts with other subjects such as art and science or art and technology, this encourages learner engagement and boosts critical thinking.

We are also excited to prepare learners for more art exhibitions and events in the future.

Eco-Team

Eco-club is an outdoor group for grade 5 to grade 7 learners which aim to encourage learners to appreciate their natural surroundings. They get together to raise awareness about the different environmental issues facing society today and become involved in various projects to assisting making life around them more environmentally friendly.
